NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, asked at @AspenSecurity whether there’s any indication that the Russians will come into compliance with the INF treaty before Aug 2 deadline, says: “No. There is no indication.” His bluntness provokes laughs.
If they don’t come back into compliance, NATO “will respond,” Stoltenberg says. But will be a “measured response” that wont mirror Russia’s.
Stoltenberg says the S-400 Turkey bought from Russia won’t be integrated into NATO systems (it’s not possible to integrate it, he says.). But ...he adds that Turkey is still part of NATO’s integrated air and missile defense. Calls it “a difficult situation.”
Stoltenberg says there is no imminent threat against any NATO allies at this moment. That raised some eyebrows. He clarified that he meant no military threat—acknowledged the constant cyber threat.
