Schiff: I want to make it clear that the choice not to go beyond the report during testimony is a choice Bob Mueller is making, that is not required by law or regulation—it is a choice.
Schiff confirms that HPSCI has heard about 5 hours of testimony on counterintelligence subjects, behind closed doors.
Schiff says he wants to know from Mueller whether Trump should be indicted once he leaves office. But he also knows Mueller won’t answer that question. “Nonetheless there are other ways of asking that question,” he adds. #AspenSecurity
Schiff also wants to know whether there was any pressure put on Mueller not to subpoena Trump, and whether any limits were placed on the scope of the probe.
Schiff says he does think there’s value in having Mueller speak the report in his own words. But says “what is most powerful” is how the facts look together—not in isolation. “You look at the pattern, and the pattern in volume 1 and volume 2 is devastating.” #AspenSecurity
