This thread is instructive for many reasons but one is House Dems’ absurd sense of their role in 2020. Their preoccupation with a positive agenda is groupthink. At best it’s a placeholder. Dems will have a presidential nominee & whoever it is will make their agenda irrelevant.
House Dems aren’t running for POTUS. Their role is to lay down covering fire for our nominee. Republicans got this when they launched the Benghazi committee on a flimsy pretext. We have a damning report submitted by a decorated former FBI director & we won’t even open an inquiry.
I don’t mean this in any altruistic sense. The opposite: Congressional electoral outcomes are more closely correlated with presidential outcomes than at any point in modern history and that isn’t changing. House Dems’ success is entirely dependent on the success of our nominee.
This is 100% correct. When they look in the mirror they see future presidents, not role players. But there is only one franchise player this season and they will be delivered by the primary process. In the meantime, we need role players.
