Got home. Opened my patio door. Went to have a cold shower.

Walked out five minutes later to find #notMyCat snoring his head off on my staircase.

I'm guessing his owners have been out all day. #indoorNapsBestNaps 😂
He absolutely loves that particular stair for some reason. It's always that exact one, and never the sofas or chairs. Even when he pops in at night and snoozes on the bed for a bit, he will eventually get up and shift to that stair.

No idea why.

As a final note on this, it also wasn't so much about the control of Ottoman WARSHIP movement (mostly galleys/galleots) but LINES OF SUPPLY.
While the Knights held Malta, the Ottomans COULDN'T field any kind of large force west of it. Because there was no way to effectively supply it. The Knights could pirate or destroy any attempt to do so.
This was why the Spanish were so supportive - because it hugely limited the threat of an Ottoman/French alliance AND allowed them to try and expand (ultimately without success) into North Africa.

Basically I love how history often revolves around things that are SO OBVIOUS in hindsight, but rely on lots of individual strands coming together in the right way.

I think it's the way they should teach it in school, and it's a real shame that they don't.

Let's talk about the point after WW2 where the Knights Hospitaller, of medieval crusading fame, 'accidentally' became a major European air power.

I shitteth ye not. 🛩️🛩️
So, if I asked you to imagine the Knights Hospitaller you probably picture:

1) Angry Christians on armoured horses
2) Them being wiped out long ago like the Templars.
3) Some Dan Brown bullshit

And you would be (mostly) wrong about all three. Which is sort of how this happened.
From the beginning (1113 or so), the Hospitallers were never quite as committed to the angry, horsey thing as the Templars. They had always (ostensibly) been more about protecting pilgrims and healthcare.

They also quite liked boats. Which were useful for both.
