This is an argument in favor of inequality, and against democratic representation.
The WC is white supremacist by design, which is why those who want to keep it want to keep it.
Nonsense. It ensures the rule of an empowered minority. Big difference.
We aren't a federation of equal states. Thanks to the Senate, every voter in North Dakota or Wyoming is 10 times better represented than any voter in California on matters that never touch the House.

In national elections R voters in CA and D voters in WV don't count at all.
Unless every state is its own nation without a shared national identity, this is false equivalence.

If we had a simple majority in national elections then everybody's vote would count and state distribution wouldn't matter at all.

Equality.
There is absolutely no reason that California shouldn't have more say in national elections than Iowa—because California has more people, and we are a nation of people.

Iowa having more say *specifically* b/c they have less people is indefensible.

This is simple.
Electors are apportioned according to population but distributed in block by a simple majority vote.

In every state, thousands and usually millions of votes didn't count at all, sometimes based on razor margins.
This is so plainly simple—the moral case is so clear, the benefits are so unjustly weighted, the demographic realities so clearly aligned with structural racism—I am forced to take an inability to understand these very simple matters as a willful choice to not understand.
What we have right now is systematized tyranny of an empowered white majority enthusiastically racing toward fascism. It's unacceptable.

At a minimum we need to overhaul the way the Senate works to greatly reduce its power, and do away with the EC entirely.
Imagine thinking “unbridled democracy” was the problem

The best thing about our system of government is that it contains the ability to change our system of government.

We can and should make needed changes to increase fairness and equal representation of people, not land.
Technician: My God.

Supervisor: What is it?

T: It’s the democracy sir ...

S: Don’t worry. As long as the bridles hold we’ll be perfectly ...

T: but that’s just it sir. The democracy is ...

S: No. not...

T: It’s become unbridled, sir.

S: Then may God have mercy on our souls
Another concern of the founders was being able to own black people as if they were farm animals.

We’re better than them.
Also LOL at the idea that the electoral college didn’t just explicitly elect bread and circuses over turning the will of the majority.
If there’s one thing I would like everyone to take away from this thread it’s this: we are at our best FAR more moral and just and wise than our founders, and we should be perfectly willing to change any stupid bullshit that they built into our government to protect themselves.
We should do that, too. And we should give representation to DC and statehood to PR.

and we should definitely be impeaching the president right now
Let’s do that, too!

We can pursue more than one solution simultaneously; indeed, we should pursue them all vigorously.

Also a condescending tone is a poor replacement for a personality. 😘
If we’ve learned nothing else from the Republicans we should’ve learned that effort is not as limited a resource as we may have been led to expect.

maybe let’s see if we have enough effort to do it all
