/ There’s something I need to get off my chest. Generally speaking, I don’t put a lot of time critizing others, even when they themselves are critizing in a way I’d disagree with. But I want to emphasize I wish more people would recognize everyone is on their own health journey
/ Anyone experiencing health problems could have a myriad of reasons for them beyond diet. They may be dealing with personal pain such as a separation/divorce, their children in turmoil, or career setbacks. They may have suffered an injury or illness they’d like to keep private
/ Moreover, a lifetime of a prior lifestyle/diet may have set them up for poor outcomes in the future, whatever their lifestyle/diet changes are to now. There’s just a lot of variables to metabolic health and they aren’t all fixed by following a specific diet plan.
/ Some people put their health gains out there for examination when touting success of a diet, and I agree this opens up more justification for scrunity. But remember it’s a journey, not a destination. If they stumble or struggle, I think we should be kind and understanding
/ I think most people sharing their diet success are doing so with the intent to help others. Are there some who enjoy comparing diet scorecards and endless debates? Sure. But when it’s about being healthier, I truly believe they are the exception over the rule
/ So again, recognize people have their own lives and we aren’t living them to know the whole story of how they got to where they are now. We’ll never know the full extent of each other’s struggles, and that should afford us more kindness and benefit of the doubt, not less.
