Scam a friend told me about.

1. Phone is stolen out of hands in broad daylight by motorbiker in foreign country. Perp turns off phone a few blocks away.
2. Three days later a police detective calls and says they have recovered the phone. They just need the PIN to verify owner. They can then ship the phone back.

They got the phone number off of the SIM and have presumed the owner has a new phone and ported number to it.
3. Friend refuses and says give me your name and police precinct. I will look up phone number and call you back. Scammer not heard from again.

Moral of the story. Don't give out your PIN to people who call you.
