How many of you know that the famous Madurai Meenakshi temple was closed for 48 years, and Srirangam Ranganath Temple was closed for over 60 years, because of Islamic Invasion. Let me narrate how they saved lord Chokkanathars Shivalinga in Madurai from barbaric Islamic invaders
Islamic Invader Rascal Malik Kafur was closing in to capture Madurai.There were 5 Sivacharyas in Madurai Meenakshi Temple. They decided to protect de Main Shivalinga from Malik kafur. They decided to place a huge rock to cover the main Shivalinga & place a duplicate linga over it
In Sanatana Dharma only those deities for which Pranaprathista ( God is invoked using mantras) has been done is worshipped,others idols for which Pranaprathista is not done is as good as a toy. These 5 Siva acharyas placed a duplicate Shivalinga on top of the rock n did deception
These 5 Siva acharyas wanted to keep this secret, so decided that one amongst them will escape and live to safegusrd this secret until the next Hindu king came to rule.This secret will be passed on to his son, then to his grandson until a Hindu King came. As per plan one escaped
The remaining 4 stayed back , fought with the forces of Malik kafur , sacrificed their lives. Hadn't they fought to save the deity these barbarians would have known it's a duplicate deity. As expected Malik kafur destroyed the duplicate Shivalinga considering it as original
48 years later Malik kafur was defeated by the Vijayanagar empire, then the secret was revealed to the Hindu king, original deity was installed and kumbabishikam done. Similarly To save Lord Ranganath in Srirangam a wall was built around Lord Ranganath to save it
The poojaris ( archaks) were moving place to place and in hiding carrying the utsava murthi to save it. Malik kafur destroyed several glorious temples built by Pandya kings in Tamil Nadu. The glorious temples you see today in TN were actually saved by the Great Vijayanagar Empire
