I agree that's part of it. But another factor that people really don't understand yet is that the level of attrition companies are experiencing is much higher than in previous decades. People are also losing their senior people at rates they are not prepared for.
The job market is changing faster than even the *analysis* of the job market can keep up with. And one big issue I see is that companies aren't able to make predictable plans for things like headcount.
I see a lot of other things that I believe contribute to the instability we see in a lot of tech companies though. I see a lot of companies failing to execute and not understanding why.

Um, did I miss something? All but one of these are paid with tax money. I'm down for this conversation, but this is a strange comparison.
I wish we were having a real conversation about how to fund journalism. Blow and others act like we are paying for their labor. We aren't. We are paying for truth and integrity. It is those things that are in question, and it has nothing to do with whether he should be paid.
I'm fine paying for journalism. I cancelled my subscriptions to both NYT and WaPo. Because while they try to maintain integrity around journalistic practices, they do not have strong enough values around espousing rhetoric that causes harm.

Reading the replies here, it's another data point on how people take a popular phrase and project whatever they want onto it. There are a dozen different definitions of "cancel culture" being argued here.
Not to mention the fact that the people who defined what call outs and call ins do not define it as a "culture" or a bandwagon to jump on. And it definitely doesn't include every type of toxic interaction that happens on the internet.
If I have a blindspot it's that I'm still asking who's lives are being "ruined"? Setting aside "cancel culture", I do believe an internet "pile-on" can feel devastating. But what are the long term effects? Why is there a growing assumption that people never recover? I'm confused.

This person has received a ton of crap. But what’s more important is that he doesn’t realize that the culture of software teams is changing. Not only is that type of engineer not welcome anymore, neither is that type of manager who coddles them and makes excuses.
The problem with pattern matching and leaning on stereotypes is that it’s harder for you to realize when the environment is changing around you. You’re allowing someone else to do your thinking for you. But what if the decisions they made don’t apply anymore in your situation?
Your job as a manager is to build a team that can reliably solve the problems that the business needs solved. In the past, managers have abdicated that work to the “lone genius” who doesn’t really listen to them anyway. That’s not managing, that’s horse betting.

This is George F. Kennan, expert on the post-WW2 Soviets, who shaped our foreign policy toward them. There's a possibility that every human on this planet is alive today due to his understanding of the USSR, which stemmed from his wider understanding of the world.
Kennan was anti-war with the Soviets, btw. He understood their beliefs in perfect equality relied on a highly paranoid mindset that brooked no dissent. He believed that geopolitical pressure could be applied to them to minimize their expansionist beliefs without military conflict

My favorite part of Lester Holt being at both nights of the Democrat debates is the fact that literally nobody brought up the fake news nonsense claiming President Trump told Lester Holt he fired Comey because of Russia. That's how dead the fake Russia nonsense is. Enjoy!

The people who get worked up the most about climate change also tend to get really upset at the prospect of tariffs on Chinese goods and they often cite how much higher prices will be if we don't buy goods from China. /1
If you actually cared about the environment, you would support measures that a) decrease the number of goods being shipped halfway around the world and b) increase prices so as to drive down consumption, particularly of electronics and plastic goods. /2
These same SJW types are also the ones who cry about poor people, but are happy for Chinese people (often children) to be worked near to death in terrible conditions so they can live their first world lifestyle. /3

1/ Congressional candidates receive countless requests to fill out questionnaires on issues. One of the best I've seen came from the @LWV. Their questions are open ended and require careful reflection. I think it's worth posting my answers here.
2/ -How will you work to increase job opportunities for your constituents?

The most important factor affecting job opportunities in Alabama is education.

At the federal level, I would work to support debt-free higher education for all Americans -- which we should...
3/ not limit to four-year degrees. Trade schools should be in the equation.

As one example of a specific policy, I would increase funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The largest employer in this area is UAB, which relies heavily on grant funding from the NIH.
