Fifty-four years ago today, the Medicare and Medicaid programs were signed into law, helping millions of Americans with receiving the care they need.
In 2010, we built on that foundation with the Affordable Care Act and expanded the Medicaid program to cover millions more.
Unfortunately, today, these programs are under constant threat — the Texas vs. United States lawsuit supported by President Trump and Congressional Republicans could wipe away that progress in an instant without any plan to take its place.
We must continue to improve, strengthen and protect both Medicare and Medicaid. As we celebrate this anniversary, I commit to continuing the fight to keep these programs strong and ensure that Americans and their families have access to the services they need.

I support the impeachment of @realDonaldTrump
My concerns about the President’s conduct have grown over months, particularly as I thoroughly reviewed Special Counsel Mueller’s report. President Trump’s most recent actions with regard to Ukraine have created new urgency to take action
Given this clear abuse of power, I believe I have an obligation to outline the conduct, both during the Russian investigation and the Ukraine matter, that is within the well-established definition of the “high crimes and misdemeanors”

The Trump Administration has gone to great lengths to suppress climate science in order to downplay the threat of climate change. We must act on the serious threat of climate change and that begins with respecting science
This Administration’s failure to promote its own USDA researchers’ climate science hurts our farmers, ranchers and rural communities. Additionally, the reckless relocation of ERS and NIFA is already causing a loss of expertise and a disruption of critical research.

Four years ago today. ✊🏾❤️

Just a few weeks ago, I received the items I had in my possession at the time I was arrested for removing the confederate flag at the South Carolina statehouse...
This was my first time seeing them since that day. Everything was still there, tagged and marked as evidence (my name was misspelled). These items will now be housed at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C.
I stand by my actions that day and continue to advocate for the dismantling of systemic racism and for the creation of an equitable society which honors the human rights of every individual. Keep fighting the good fight wherever you're at. 🙏🏾💕

When you discover that you have an unruptured aneurysm in your brain, you want a doctor who is exceedingly skilled, and mine was (is!) — living in New York City with great insurance helped with this. But when we went to his office for the first meeting, I was unprepared for him.
I sat in the examination room, and he pulled the roll of paper over the long exam table, and drew me a picture of the most complicated kind of aneurysm there was and said simply, “that’s yours.” At which point, I looked at him and said, “Can you fix it?”

Four years ago today at this time I walked out of court.

I had been released on bail after being arrested for being suicidal. I was charged with breach of the peace and wasting police time, even though there was no one else in danger and no disruption to the public.
I had been so unwell in the court cells that the duty solicitor thought I wasn’t fit to plead, but it was ‘too late on’ to do anything about it. One of my bail conditions was that I ‘engage with social work’ before leaving court, but the social work office had closed for the day.
I didn’t have a social worker, and didn’t have any support or help from them or from mental health services throughout the duration of the prosecution (7 months). I was later told that in court the sheriff said they were minded to remand me as I seemed so at risk and had no help.
