(Colorized by me) The Warsaw Uprising started #OnThisDay in 1944.

It was a major World War II operation by the Polish underground resistance, led by the Home Army (Armia Krajowa), to liberate Warsaw from German occupation.

Although the exact number of casualties is unknown, it is estimated that about 16,000 members of the Polish resistance were killed and about 6,000 badly wounded. In addition, between 150,000 and 200,000 Polish civilians died, mostly from mass executions.

#OnThisDay in 1943 – Jewish prisoners stage a revolt at Treblinka, one of the deadliest of Nazi death camps where approximately 900,000 persons were murdered in less than 18 months.
On August 2, 1943, prisoners quietly seized weapons from the camp armory, but were discovered before they could take over the camp.

Hundreds of prisoners stormed the main gate in an attempt to escape.

Many were killed by machine-gun fire.
More than 300 did escape -- though two-thirds of those who escaped were eventually tracked down and killed by German SS and police as well as military units.

#OnThisDay in 1941 – Under instructions from Hitler, Hermann Göring orders Reinhard Heydrich to "submit to me as soon as possible a general plan of the administrative material and financial measures necessary for carrying out the desired Final Solution of the Jewish question."
With the onset of Operation Barbarossa, mobile killing units of the SS, the Einsatzgruppen, and Order Police battalions were dispatched to the occupied Soviet Union for the express purpose of killing all Jews.
During the early stages of the invasion, Himmler himself visited Białystok in the beginning of July 1941, and requested that, "as a matter of principle, any Jew" behind the German-Soviet frontier was to be "regarded as a partisan".

The pilot was Soviet celebrity Valery Chkalov, the most famous of “Stalin’s Falcons”. Chkalov was a son of a Volga boatman and a daring pilot.
The aircraft, ANT-25 was designed by the genius Andrei Nikolayevich Tupolev. Revolutionary design, included the fuel tanks in the wings for the first time. The proportion of wings to the fuselage resembled a glider, allowing the plane to fly huge distances without refuelling.

Today is the Punya Thithi of Rash Behari Bose, the brain behind the entire INA movement, revolutionary leader, key player in the Ghadar conspiracy, first Indian to set up a restaurant in Japan, evaded British 17 times, a legend in his own right.
If Netaji came out in the fight as Garibaldi of the INA movement, Rash Behari’s part in the drama was more than that of a Mazzini- Thakin Nu, ex premier of Myanmar.
And that aptly summed up Rash Behari Bose, he was the brains behind the scene, setting up INA from scratch.
In many ways Rash Behari was the opposite of his more famed namesake, Subash Chandra Bose. Netaji was a brilliant orator, one who could motivate people to shed blood for the cause of freedom, the charismatic leader, who could sway the masses like none another.
