UPDATE: the ICE Building in Milwaukee is officially closed! Direct action works!

This means no raids or deportations today, nobody taken into custody at ICE check-ins, & zero neighbors harmed.

My hot take on the Joshua Harris divorce/purity culture stuff happening right now:

Purity culture is bad & has caused a lot of spiritual & emotional trauma for people.

But the near-total sellout to secular sexual ethics by progressives/exvangelicals is equally bad. (1/9)
And here is the even hotter take: They are bad for most of the same root reasons. Both conceive of sexuality and the sex act as little more than a commodity: "It is something we do for love and for pleasure. Yes it makes babies, but that isn't the main reason we like it." (2/9)
Both purity culture and the prog/exvangelical reaction to it fail to actually place sex in a holistic Christian sacral & ethical framework. Namely, they fail to look at sex as part of a larger creational and ethical whole. Sex-as-commodity is a de-creational view of sex. (3/9)

If you're reading this, I have just been arrested with 17 other Jews and allies outside of the ICE Detention Facility in Boston, protesting the US government's detention and dehumanizing abuse of immigrants in concentration camps at the border and around the country.
Growing up Jewish, I heard the message over and over from my elders: NEVER AGAIN. Honestly, I heard it so often, I got a little impatient, as kids sometimes do. I thought: I get it, I get it, you don't have to keep saying it. Obviously the Holocaust should never happen again.
Surely everyone understands this now.

I am heartbroken to have grown to understand what they already knew. We are now a country locking children in cages, forcing grown women to drink from toilets, forcing men to live in cells so cramped they can't lie down to sleep.
