The Leader of the Monster Raving Loony Party, Alan “Howling Laud” Hope has arrived with his candidate Lady Lily the Pink at the #BreconByelection. Got to feel for them, they must find it harder and harder to remain the most ridiculous thing in British politics these days.
Dear God I love a by election though. Makes me proud to be British.
Pink lady is actually handing out pink lady apples. Glorious.

After last night's fun I realised I really don't know enough about the history of the Monster Raving Loony Party. Delighted to discover the name of their candidate in the 1981 Crosby by-election was: "Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel."
On the way home and my producer @andrewiconnell is really not enjoying my “let’s find the by election closest to your birth game”. Really boring, tbh

In losing the #BreconByElection Boris Johnson has become a record breaker.

At only 11 days he has lost a seat in a by-election faster than any prime minister since Asquith in 1908 (16 days).

The government’s working majority in Parliament has just dropped to one.
Firstly a real victory for the Lib Dems. They should have won the seat but it was a big story majority. They’re thrilled.

They now actually have a seat in Wales, something they haven’t had since 2017.

#BreconByelection some thoughts: smart money was on a Lib Dem win. They’ve targeted the seat for two years, threw the kitchen sink at it and scored a good win. For the @brexitparty_uk it was our 400th target seat from 650. So did we split the vote? >>
Well, a significant number of people either didn’t trust Boris to deliver a clean-break Brexit, or would never vote Tory anyway, and voted @brexitparty_uk This represents a headache for Tory HQ as this will be replicated across the UK - more so in our target seats
Then consider this: more people voted Leave/pro-Brexit in #BreconByelection than Remain (Tory + @brexitparty_uk = 16,080 v Lib Dem = 14,906).

This is in line with 52% v 48% at EU Ref so there has been no “Remain resurgence”. Actually Brexit “won” in Brecon *

2. When I entered seminary, I was a bit older than everyone else. I was 34 when everyone else was 24-27. But I was full of joy starting my new life. To study and learn a lot, plus I am an extrovert and I love meeting new people. Never had I imagined what I was about to experience
3. All started well. I met many new guys with whom I was going to share 7 years. My new 100 roommates. Nothing gives an extrovert more energy, but after a few months, I felt the loneliest person in the world. I was alone & I couldn’t understand why, but it was happening.

(THREAD) 1. MEET Estela and Nicolas. Today they got married. For anyone else this would be just a picture of a normal wedding day, but for these two, there is much more than meets the eye. For them, this is a story of the triumph of love and hope.
2. 3 weeks ago I was approached by someone at my parish.
-“Father, there is a couple who wants to get married.”
-“I am glad to hear that. Tell them to call me & we will set up a meeting.”
-“Well” she said, “this is the thing. They are in the hospital. Could you come please?”
3. I went to visit them, only to find out that Estela, a beautiful 26 year old woman, had cancer that spread all over her body. Doctors give her a limited time of life. I saw her husband to be, by her side, with a sad smile in his eyes, asking me for hope and a miracle.
