After last night's fun I realised I really don't know enough about the history of the Monster Raving Loony Party. Delighted to discover the name of their candidate in the 1981 Crosby by-election was: "Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel."
On the way home and my producer @andrewiconnell is really not enjoying my “let’s find the by election closest to your birth game”. Really boring, tbh

Leaving aside the fact this would be constitutionally improper, it is a strategic mistake by Number 10. If Corbyn holds the line that he will support no other PM designate it presents MPs who oppose no deal with mother choice but to make JC prime minister so as to extend A50.
I’m also not sure as to the strategic or political wisdom of holding an election in the *exact* period where disruption is at its maximum. If I were Johnson and this were Cummings’ advice, I’d wonder what he cared about more. The purest form of Brexit possible or my premiership.
I’d want to fight an election on a parliament trying to thwart Brexit prospectus. Otherwise, what would the election be about, exactly? The domestic issues where the Tories trail Labour?

After Jim Callaghan lost a confidence vote in 1979 this was the exchange he had with Margaret Thatcher, then Leader of the Oppostion. If a govt loses the confidence of the House they should not do anything controversial until an election or without support of the Opposition.
You might say that given Parl has made no deal the legal default that is the precedent and the govt ought not change it in that period. some credibility to that. But:

-Parl has repeatedly voted in opposition to no deal since
-it is clearly a matter of *enormous* controversy.
Seems to me then if no new govt can be formed precedent would suggest the election itself must resolve the matter, which would be impossible if the election were scheduled after we leave.

Yes, thank god for that “collapsing pound”, always a sign of a robust and thriving economy in which the world has confidence.
I mean, I for one just love paying more for *everything* we import. Which is, you know, *most* things.
Everyone is forgetting that if sterling keeps falling then the Bank of England would normally look at raising rates as a countermeasure. Yet with no deal they’ll need to stimulate the economy to prevent us from falling into recession or worse. This isn’t good.

Okay I'm going to do something slightly unusual here. I'm finishing up my book manuscript right now, ACTIVE MEASURES (tinyletter.com/ridt). One specific set of fact-checking questions is particularly hard—and related to US nuclear targeting in the early 1960s. Bear with me.
A head's up, for those who need it: to ask my question, I will have to post a few screenshots of top secret nuclear yield requirement tables and targeting lists that were technically never declassified, but that are also publicly available (just very hard to find).
Context: KGB obtained these documents almost certainly form Robert Lee Johnson, a US Army Sgt and spy in Paris in the early 1960s. They were then surfaced and leaked multiple times in bits and pieces in Europe and the US in the 70s & 80s. Johnson's story is also crazy. Source WP

I’ve deleted the thread. And replaced it with this one!
Having a softcore porn reference in the software field is still problematic, whether or not the creator intended it. And it’s hard to imagine that I’m the first one to point it out. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He checks the bathroom but there is no sign of the younger.

Failing to have his call picked up,
he sends a text and starts to feel anxious.

He opens the closet and finds their bags with their wallets inside. It means the other only has his phone with him.

And he's not answering any calls and texts.

He's seriously getting worried.
If before, he could contact his cousin and ask of his whereabouts, right now he doesn't have anyone to turn to.

Just then the door opens, revealing a drenched Kyungsoo. The younger just stands there, at the doorway with a bashful smile.

"What happened to you? Why are you wet?"

A quick, angry #history thread about Room 40 because apparently historians are still making shit up about its location. Last year Barry Gough wrote that it was "in a quiet wing of the Old Admiralty Building". 1/
Those windows outlined in green? That's Room 40. Where the blue lines are? That's the Board Room. @thehistoryguy should know, he's been filmed in it, but still talked rubbish about Room 40. The red lines? The Chief of the Staff's office. In orange? The war room. 2/
The light blue lines are where the Director of Intelligence Division (later DNI)'s office was (he later moved next door). Pink is Alfred Ewing's office where the codebreaking effort began. Dark blue is where the First Sea Lord moved his office later in the war. 3/

Last night I stayed up much later than I intended to, writing up the history of MotoGP's transformation into where it is today. Why did Tech3 drop Yamaha in favor of KTM? To understand that, you have see how the class has evolved since the late 90s. /1
First came the swap from two strokes to four strokes, because the manufacturers weren't building two stroke road bikes any long. /2
Then came the glorious untamed beasts of the first generation of MotoGP, the 990 era. The bikes were overpowering the tires again, and had more horsepower than they knew what to do with. They also reached terrifying top speeds within a couple of years. /3
