I've been thinking about this so much. Feels like an ultimate test of character.
My enemies are... really evil. They've caused a lot of misery and have destroyed so many lives. And yet, can I, in my heart, attempt to feel any kinda kindness towards them?
Here's the thing. Some of the most "powerful" people in the world are in a way slaves to their position. For all their power, they are unable to act *otherwise*. They are, in a way, painted into a corner.
Some of the most "powerful" people in the world are driven by fear. They're actually afraid, and their fear drives them to do & build even more evil, and hence paint themselves even tighter into that corner.
I'd say "painted themselves into a corner", but that's not paint on the ground, that's blood.
And here's that really crushing test of character. Can you extend a hand to them, and a bridge across all that blood? How can you manage their fear?
Because if you don't, this vicious cycle won't end without more, and more, and more blood.
