So, I'm doing some digging, and I'm trying to figure out a weird little tidbit around Elijah Cummings.

In 2007, Elijah Cummings was reported as being worth 1/4 of a million dollars.

Suddenly, in 2008, he's worth $900k, and in an amended filing reveals a metric shit-ton of properties. A half a million dollar house in DC, and a second home in Baltimore, overall his assets spike to at least $1.25 million opensecrets.org/personal-finan…
WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED?

There weren't any new committee assignments for him, at least not that I could tell, the 110th congress and 111th congress he was chair of a subcommittee on infrastructure and transportation (maritime subcommittee).
The only notable thing I can see from 2008 is him giving an address at the 2008 DNC convention, and he was one of Obama's surrogates during his presidential campaign.

Oh.
Yeah. That figures. Dude was tapped as a surrogate for Barack Obama's 2008 campaign, and got a massive payoff as a result.

Another random late night thought: I sincerely doubt Trump will go to war with China. Not because it would be destructive, it wouldn’t be, China doesn’t hold a fucking candle to our military and their island bases are sitting ducks. B/c he’s going to exhaust every option first.
I instead see a situation in which as human rights abuses escalate Trump will use that to ratchet up the pressure on Xi in Beijing, and use the protests as a casus belli to apply the sanctions and such he couldn’t use in trade deals.
Remember, he has a standing executive order making it easy for the treasury to sanction abusers of human rights. He could cut off massive parts of Beijing’s elites from the financial world. China is also suffering bank runs right now in major banks.

It ends with a threat that it will be "restructured in order to reduce the influence of politics" if "the people" don't like the results of this gun control case.

1/ I'm trying to figure out the legal authority Barr has to curtail the sworn testimony of a private citizen beyond prohibiting the revelation of classified testimony in open session—or other currently protected data, like still-sealed grand jury testimony—but am coming up empty.
2/ The problem is that Robert Mueller isn't *contesting* Barr's false assertion of executive-branch authority, because it *makes his testimony easier*. It's getting harder and harder to admire how Mueller is handling all this, even as I continue to admire the man and his service.

The Fund was inspired by Nilda. From Honduras. Survived sex, domestic, & gang violence. Thought U.S. would protect her. Instead they stole her 2 y/o & detained her. “This is what happens when you come to my country” they said. She bravely told her story:
Nilda survived so much, first in Honduras, then on her journey, then in US custody. But even after her release & reconnection w/ her baby, her struggle continued. Unable to work w/o a delayed work authorization, trouble affording housing, food, basic necessities.

First,I thought this was a pilot & how is a program in a pilot phase becomes the defining way to access Government services.This sounds like a huge cartel within the Govt,in hurry to prove that the idea is worth being given billion which as usual will end up in personal pockets
So in Kenya most of major projects are funded by donors and I wonder which donor was convinced that Kenyans need to be given a thousand numbers in order to access Government services..Hey @WorldBankKenya is this you and if so what was the rationale behind the proposal?
