Among things I've heard conservatives blame for mass shootings other than guns, white racism or toxic masculinity: lack of school prayer, abortion, video games, drag queens, recreational weed, marriage equity, kneeling 4 the anthem, Obama (natch). They deflect, people die...

ah yes, and add to that rap music of course (even when the shooters are white, they probably got the idea from rap!)...and mental illness (which they don't believe in funding, bc the right thinks mental illness is just Satan and Jesus will heal you)...
...and fatherless families (even though most mass shooters came from intact families, for what that's worth)...

Conspiracy theories are for people who underestimate how vile complex social systems can be. They are ultimately conservative, in that they downplay the truly destructive ways in which social structures operate. Shorter version: they are for people too lazy to study sociology.
2/ This is not to say there are not conspiracies...and this thread is not about Jeff Epstein...it's about the lazy ass people who populate Q and Infowars and every other broad based conspiracy theory out there
3/ Epstein's "suicide" is fishy as hell, don't get me wrong. But he could have been killed by any number of people for any number of reasons, not all of them political. People in jails and prisons don't like pedophiles and sex traffickers, fo instance...

2/ And b4 some of y'all start in on me, I agree with Sen Warren's policy ideas. They just are not the point right now. NO ONE is waiting around to hear a bunch of 10-point plans for everything under the sun in order to vote. Policy ideas do not drive turnout. Moral visions do...
3/ And right now we have a moral crisis in our nation being fed by Trump. He didn't create it, but he is stoking it w/ bigotry & division. THAT is the issue. America vs Trumpism. Pluralism & multicultural democracy vs. white nationalism. It's a fight for the soul of the nation...

1/ We've all focused a lot on the rhetoric of racism coming from Trump. But his actions speak even more loudly. It's one thing 2 call immigrants "invaders." But when u treat them as such -- as less than human -- u can't be surprised when others decide they are worthy of death...
2/ The dehumanizing treatment is the far bigger problem, and our tolerance for it -- the threshold of acceptability -- has grown precisely bc the rhetoric was normalized. This is how the most horrific crimes in history begin...
3/ The notion that some people are disposable; that their children don't matter; that they "deserve" whatever happens to them; that we don't have to care...this is the path to terrorism both individual and by the state, and BOTH are in play right now...

Video games do not make murderers. If they did, China (which has almost as many gamers as the US has humans) would have constant domestic attacks.

HOWEVER.

Gaming-related media in America is filled with Nazi trolls working hard to recruit children.
Sites like 4chan and 8chan were built on gaming, by gamers for gamers. Reddit and YouTube have MASSIVE gaming communities. All are infested with white supremacist terrorists, working to get your kids killing for them.
It's often not the content itself that's dangerous, it's the comments. Virtually any Google search for ANY game will turn up at least one page with Nazi talking points in the comments. Try it and see.

If you need proof the GOP’s gaslighting doesn’t start and end with Donald Trump, just watch the entire party try to pin mass shootings on anything besides easy access to assault weapons.
The GOP keeps making it easier to get assault weapons.

When their policies kill, they tell ridiculous lies. It’s about school prayer, or video games, or *not enough guns*.

I'm so tired of the bullshit narrative that violent video games cause mass shootings. There have been dozens of studies on this point and NONE support that conclusion.

In the wake of every mass shooting, politicians - particularly in the US - rush for something to blame. Far too often, video games are the thing they point to. They'll reference "studies" to support their claims, but they haven't read them and don't know what they say.
This refrain is easy because no one actually holds them accountable. The interviewers don't know the research either, and even if they did they're not going to push back because they like the narrative...
