Conspiracy theories are for people who underestimate how vile complex social systems can be. They are ultimately conservative, in that they downplay the truly destructive ways in which social structures operate. Shorter version: they are for people too lazy to study sociology.
2/ This is not to say there are not conspiracies...and this thread is not about Jeff Epstein...it's about the lazy ass people who populate Q and Infowars and every other broad based conspiracy theory out there
3/ Epstein's "suicide" is fishy as hell, don't get me wrong. But he could have been killed by any number of people for any number of reasons, not all of them political. People in jails and prisons don't like pedophiles and sex traffickers, fo instance...
4/ And even in his case there is a systemic issue: prisons and jails are notorious for not having working cameras or people watching so that brutalization can take place. Most victims are POC and poor, and no one ever says shit. In this case, he could have fallen prey to that...
5/ The irony being, if so, that a prison and jail system set up to dispose of people not like Jeffrey Epstein ultimately served to get rid of Jeffrey Epstein, whether by murder or unguarded suicide...the same way it is allowed to do with POC and poor folks every day...
6/ But in the end, the thing all conspiracy theories have in common is a desire for "bad actors" behind the curtain manipulating things; the idea being if we can just expose them, we can set the world right. But things are actually worse than that...the problems are systemic..
7/ And that means we have to alter large structures that work to the benefit of some & detriment of others...and that is harder the revealing Oz...that is why I say conspiracy theories are for people who are ultimately either too intellectually lazy or too unhinged to dig deeper
8/ Even when conspiracies have been real, over time, systems become entrenched and perpetuate themselves almost on auto pilot without the need of active manipulation or secret cabals...
(edit) this should read "that is harder than revealing Oz..."
