did you enjoy the lightly moderated discussions we had at @o11ycon, or at velocity in june (either the session on observability, or the one on the management pendulum)? or look on enviously from afar?

this format is my new favorite way for nerds to come together in fellowship.
it borrows a lot from the history of unconferences, or devops days conferences, so due credit there.

in the past, meetups have typically revolved around some anointed speaker or speakers. and these can be great! but i have often chafed at them.
sometimes you look around and realize, "this audience knows more about the topic than the speaker does"

or their use case doesn't match yours, and so the talk is useless but you really wish you could have a *conversation* with the speaker
and sitting and listening to someone is just an inherently passive act. i personally don't learn well unless it's *participatory*.

we've learned so much about the wisdom of the team and the value of many points of view, why do our meetups still skew to the command-and-control?
anyhow -- tangent -- if you *were* one of the many people sitting plaintively out last june, you're in luck.

we're running another night of lightly-moderated round table discussions on observability! just experts talking to experts, sharing what we know, what we've seen.
observability roundtables night will be thursday, august 15th, at heavybit -- cosponsored by @blamelesshq.

@lizthegrey will be in town as your host! -- and i will be there too, assuming my flight gets back from florida remotely on time. 🥰 meetup.com/Honeycomb-Tech…
there will be a NYC roundtables night announced shortly, date being ironed out right now.

if you're into participatory learning, if you have shit to share and are dying to hear from other engineers on the cutting edge of observability -- you prob shouldn't miss this.
