The #ElPaso shooter was inspired to by white supremacist ideology while the #Dayton shooter supported leftist ideology but there is not evidence to suggest that his actions were spurred by that ideology. Nuance doesn't lend itself to virality but I will attempt succinctness.
The difference between being violence inspired by ideology and violence perpetrated by someone who supports and ideology must be carefully delineated. The former was catalyzed to action by white supremacist ideas, while the later supported leftist ideas but there is no evidence
As of yet to suggest that those leftist ideas were what caused him to act. Ideas are powerful and the human mind is sometimes so complex that someone may not fully understand the nacence of their own motivations. Nevertheless, the distinction is important.
An ideology that inspires violence and hate is inherently bad or evil based on our societal mores and norms but an ideology that is supported by someone that does something bad or evil is not in and of itself inherently bad or evil. We must strive to not conflate the two.
The distinction encompasses the idea that the ideology supported by someone doing bad or evil is not an inherent consequence of that support less bad or evil acts are inherent in the support of the ideology itself. So while the two shooters from this weekend's massacres
may have had diametrically opposed ideological leanings that does not lead to an inevitable conclusion that both ideologies are inherently to blame for each act of violence. Whereas white supremacy in it's current form glorifies violence and action against the other
Leftist ideology in it's current form in the American political landscape does not necessarily engender or seek to inspire violence of the kind perpetrated in Dayton. It is this distinctions that must be made in order to prevent a fundamental misinterpretation of recent event.
