There are at least 7 or 8 ERPO (aka "red flag") bills in Congress, by both Republicans and Democrats. It's like it's a competition to see who can get theirs through first. One such bill is the Jake Laird Act of 2019.
This one is slick because it doesn't mention the terms Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) or Red Flag anywhere in the bill. But, all you have to do is read a few sections down and there is the language:
"SEC. 3. GRANTS FOR FIREARM SEIZURE LAW.

(a) Authorization.—The Attorney General is authorized to make grants to States that have in place a law which authorizes the seizure of a firearm from a dangerous individual in accordance with section 4.
All of these bills are simply about giving grants to states to create gun confiscation laws. They say they are about "mental health", but they aren't. This bill mentions the word "mental" only in the definitions section ("mental illness") to define someone who is "dangerous".
You'd think if it were about addressing mental health, there'd be something about a mental health evaluation or counseling. Nope. It's all about getting states to create laws that will make confiscation of guns have some legal standing, and paying them off to do it.
This particular bill is sponsored by Republican Susan Brooks (IN-5) and has two fake Republican cosponsors (who always vote w/ Democrats on their anti-2A bills) - Upton (MI-6) and Fitzpatrick (PA-1). This is only one of the several bills that have Republican fingerprints on them.
Read it if you want to see just one version of a "red flag" law. congress.gov/bill/116th-con…
