If you're building a workplace product, take a step back and map the Work Graph for your product.

🏬= individuals, teams, leadership
connected by projects, meetings, company-wide events

🏬🔁🏬= new hires, freelancers, agencies

Thoughts to get started [thread👇]
1/ The Work Graph can be clearly defined using a company's org chart and team structures

In the case of Facebook's "Social Graph," mapping the relationship between entities can be fairly complex

Acquaintance vs. friend is harder to identify than
direct report vs. manager
2/ If your product is adopted by individual employees, one way to unlock managers is by adding insights and reporting

Once you unlock managers, tools can spread quickly:

1. Other direct reports ie: multiple new users
2. Other managers ↔️
3. Manager's manager ⬆️
3/ If your product unlocks more value as more companies use it, engage with external facing teams ie: business development, sales, etc.

ie: Slack channels can be used to introduce new users at new companies to the product through cross-company collaboration
4/ Freelancers, agencies and new hires play an important role in distributing your product to new users

ie: as users move to a new company it creates a new opportunity to land and expand your product
5/ The Work Graph can be mapped using key documents, calendar events and moments tied to company-wide goals

1. Use calendars to identify key meetings & attendees
2. Find killer use cases aligned to company-wide events ie: all-hands, quarterly planning
6/ In the workplace, it's important to understand the relationship between each node at the individual and team level

1. How often do they meet?
2. What information do they need to share?
3. Who has more influence and authority?
7/ In many cases, information should be shared with the right amount of context

ie: PMs don't need access to Zendesk, but individual tickets should be easily passed to Trello or Jira.

Your Work Graph will inform your roadmap for integrations
I'd love to hear how other workplace products are thinking their Work Graph, especially for individual teams

This is especially compelling for developer tools and products with a primarily bottom-up GTM
