Jefferson was in poor health, and very near the end of his life.

Not only have tariffs destroyed their family businesses, climate change is DEVASTATING this state's farmers.

1. All right, before I log off this hellsite to do some Real Work, a quick final thread on one episode from last night's debate. Both Maddow & Todd asked the candidates, basically, "what are you going to do about Mitch McConnell?" Let's ponder that a bit.
2. The question, rephrased, is effectively, "we know McConnell will use every conceivable bit of procedural fuckery to block you. He'll filibuster every bill, deny any cooperation, refuse to vote on nominees, literally anything he can think of. What will you do about it?"
3. But just think for a moment about the premise involved. The idea that McConnell will ratfuck anything & anyone, no matter the principle or norm involved, to maintain minority white rule -- that he will behave like a sociopath -- is just ... taken for granted.

37 years ago today -- in 5 minutes actually -- President Reagan was shot and nearly killed. The would-be assassin's bullet lodged an inch from his heart. The 70-year-old president lost half of his blood. Going to drop some of what I learned while researching my book, Rawhide Down
This is one of the most dramatic days in U.S. presidential history, and it revealed much about Reagan's character and courage. It established a strong bond between the president and the American people when they saw his mettle.
March 30, 1981, was gray and rainy in DC. The only thing of note on Reagan's schedule was a speech to the AFL-CIO at the Washington Hilton Hotel. Speech was a little bit of everything: shrinking govt, cutting taxes, addressing high crime rates.
