In order to confront the evils of religious bigotry and hatred, we must realize that all of our destinies are linked.

I cannot speak out against Islamophobia if I am not also speaking out against the dangerous rise in anti-Semitism.
Donald Trump has spent his whole life targeting minorities communities—promoting hate against black, immigrant, Muslim, Latinx, women, people with disabilities and Jewish-Americans.
He seeks to undermine the American project of multiracial democracy and pit us against each other at every turn. And the Republican Party is allowing it.
That’s why it is sickening to watch people make false equivalences between the open bigotry and hatred of this President and progressives.
For my part, I have sought to lift up these values—to speak up for all religious minorities—at every turn.

That includes joining with my colleague @janschakowsky early in my term to speak out about the rise in anti-Semitic violence—and call for increased attention to white nationalist terror.

That includes cosponsoring 2 Republican-led bills to address persecution against Christian minorities.

And yes, that includes accounting for and learning from my own mistakes to become a better ally.
But now is not the time for false equivalences.
Our president is attacking basic values of religious pluralism.

You are either serious about protecting religious minorities of all stripes or you are not serious about any.
