I find this extremely worrying. We have been largely spared US-style ‘culture wars’, where primarily ethical issues are bound up with political allegiances. Make no mistake: linking an important human rights issue to tribal loyalty will make it intractable thetimes.co.uk/article/boris-… 
I have experienced this first hand with the Labour antisemitism issue. Binding a human rights issue to tribal political allegiance distorts the issue and causes people to lose their sense of right and wrong, as their factional loyalty blinds them to the underlying principles
The ‘trans rights vs women’s rights’ issue (a dichotomy which I believe is false, as these are not diametrically opposed, though they can require balancing in certain situations) is already fiercely contested. Adding political allegiance into the mix will help no one
