Journalists and opinion writers who complain that Democrats are not treating Trump with the mockery and disdain that Republicans treated Obama or Trump treats every carbon-based life form not himself reveal a few things about themselves and the media environment.
They want to be entertained, not informed. They have been trained by Trump to report on the silly stuff, the insults, the personal beefs, the mood or campaigns, not the substance
They are willing to continue the charade that there is an even playing field for media coverage as though there were not this vast propaganda arm from Fox, One America, and Sinclair to amplify the bullshit which the mainstream media will treat as one "side" of debate
The only reason Bret Stephens is a thing at all is the #NYTimes buying into the bullshit idea that climate change denial must be presented as one side of an equal argument as though science were merely an opinion
The media has learned nothing since 2016. They rush to each new turd Trump tweets to ponder, pontificate, and polish as though Trump's position makes his brain farts and whims new. Dyspepsia is not news.
This means they won't stick to one thing, the way they clung to emails. There are a hundred scandals and they all get the flurry and forget treatment, nothing gets focused on to the end.
And bottom line, they lack the time and inclination for research on policy, they want to get a sound bite from a speech, report on the gossip, and move on. They are not political reporters, they are gossip columnists. Send them to Hollywood and bring us real reporters.
