Watch for a change to the funding structure in Alberta education. Private school students only received 80% of what public students received from public coffers. Kenney and UCP will equalize payment to all three options. This will destroy the public option for education.

Welcome to the voucher system of education in Alberta. Where it’s left to the consumer with means to provide quality of their education choice. Not a standardized method of ensuring quality education. Sure there will be standards, incapable of being achieved without extra funds.

If you think the fundraising requirements for public schools is too much now, be prepared to increase your efforts. Affluent neighbourhoods will undoubtedly cover the funding shortfalls. Less affluent neighbourhoods won’t have the capacity to supplement the required funds.

Low income neighbourhoods will suffer the most. It’s well documented, by Fraser Institute’s annual school report, that schools with primarily low income families produce much lower academic achievement. They interpret that outcome as evidence low income means low mental capacity.

Since private, for profit institutions will charge additional fees, they have the advantage. Universally available (formerly known as Public) schools will be at a disadvantage because the average citizen can’t afford excessive tuition costs of private options.

Taxes will continue to be collected. And will be distributed evenly to private, “public” and homeschool education choices.

The US has a voucher system. Each student receives the same amount of public funding to be used at their parent’s choice of education system.

Revealing the true purpose of Scheer’s policy to provide tax relief for private options in education to the tune of $4000 per child.

Its to ensure the imbalance effectively eliminates quality in public schools. And gives religious schools equal funding to public institutions.

The kicker is, the middle class taxpayer is forced to supplement the cost of quality education of the wealthy and contribute to the “dumbing” down of religious choices.

All while the capacity to provide quality education for their children in the publicly available system is further stressed by foisting the responsibility to fund raise for essentials on their shoulders as well as pay their taxes. Eliminating equal opportunity for middle class.

Excessive class sizes, funding shortfalls, reduced resources, and severe impacts on academic achievements for the middle and low income populations are the result of this policy choice.

Demonstrated quite clearly by the US education system.

Isn’t it grand to have so much choice and “freedom” & be compelled to fund the perpetual middle and low income disadvantage, wealth class’s systemic advantage and the real bonus, religious extremism? 😡

Make a choice Canada.

Democracy and universally equal education and opportunity or the stratified class system of far right ideology offered by conservatives that’s engrained in policy decisions and systemically almost impossible to overcome by hard work & determination.

Seems like a fairly easy choice for the middle & low income Canadian to me. Regardless of political leanings. Your kids education will suffer and they will be at a disadvantage in the labour market in perpetuity with this policy’s full implementation and you pay the bill.
