NEW: THe House Judiciary Committee has taken the first formal steps to broaden its impeachment probe to include questions about the president steering government business to his resorts -- highlighted by his push to host the G7 at Doral. Story TK

What the committee wants:
The push is part of a coordinated effort with the Overisght Committee to raise questions about government spending at Trump properties, particularly about VP Pence's stay at Trump's Doonbeg resort in Ireland. The details:

Pelosi made a rare foray into this issue this week when she portrayed Pence's stay at Doonbeg as part of an ongoing violation of the Constitution by Trump, abetted by his allies in government.

NOTABLE: Though Judiciary calls the push part of its impeachment effort, Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings -- who has not endorsed a formal impeacment inquiry -- makes no reference to impeachment in his inquiries about Doonbeg.

NEWS: The House Intel Committee voted tonight to release a tranche of transcripts from the GOP-led Russia investigation in 2017-2018. We could see them in a day or two.
MORE NEWS: Rep. SCHIFF says DNI Maguire has refused to turn over the contents of an "urgent" whistleblower complaint that could involve wrongdoing by the president or his advisers.

He now says Maguire must testify by Thursday, possibly under subpoena. Story TK
NEW: Intel officials told lawmakers today that the whistleblower complaint DNI Maguire denied to Congress didn't meet the technical definition of an "urgent" complaint, overruling the IG on the matter.

He also doesn't plan to appear for a Thurs hearing.

Lewandowski’s testimony to Mueller was key to one of the most vivid episodes of potential obstruction. Trump asked him to tell Jeff Sessions to block the Russia investigation or be fired.
Lewandowski passed the order on to Rick Dearborn (who isn’t showing today under orders from the WH). And Dearborn never followed through.

Mueller notes that Trump’s aides/allies aren’t accessories to potential obstruction because they didn’t carry out the orders.

NEW: Nadler says the Judiciary Committee is too bogged down "impeaching Trump" to turn to a Kavanaugh probe right now.

Says the next step on Kavanaugh will be when Wray comes in for a previously scheduled hearing next month.

NADLER also made his strongest comments to date on impeaching Trump, saying it's "imperative."

First, let's state the obvious:

Donald Trump's entire presidency is an impeachable offense, an affront to basic human values, an insult to common sense and common decency, a threat to the rule of law.

He has violated the emoluments clause of the Constitution by using the office to enrich himself and his family.

He coddles dictators while alienating allies.

Impeachment is a constitutional remedy the framers created to allow for the removal, between elections, of a president who abuses his power and cannot be left in charge.
Democrats are trying to transform it into a way to express their hatred of President Trump and their conviction or pretended belief that his 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton was somehow illegitimate.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.

NEW: The House Judiciary Committee is requesting information about reports that Trump told the head of Customs and Border Protection, Kevin McAleenan, he would grant a pardon if McAleenan was jailed for following his unlawful order to block asylum seekers from entering the US.
"The reported discussion ... follows a troubling pattern ... that appears to demonstrate that President Trump views the pardon power as a political tool, or even worse, as an expedient mechanism for circumventing the law."
