1) There is a small object lesson in this show for writers, in that my agents tried to talk me out of doing it. I was on a fast-track sitcom career and taking time out to write and develop an animated show made no sense. The pilot and further episodic fee was *tiny*.
2) But I was a Jackie fan and thanks to my manager I got to pitch him. Which led to JC teaching me how action scenes work, that tiny ep fee was just fine over 99 episodes (I bought my first house with that money), a rewrite job on RUSH HOUR 2 and 1st draft of RH3.
3) Both that feature and TV work led to a ton of other work, friendships with writers, and a bunch of younger but now distressingly NOT SO YOUNG fans at conventions.
4) Naught but a blockhead ever wrote but for money as the saying goes, but give yourself room for at least one passion project. You never know.
