1. The drama at the Center for American Progress & ThinkProgress should raise a larger question: are liberal think tanks nimble enough going to adapt to the new political era, with the Democratic Party tugging left-wards?
2. There's some CAP specific stuff with the ThinkProgress fiasco but drama is playing against a background where the Democratic Party is moving in policy directions that the donor class (who fund the think tanks) might not want to go.
3. Liberal think tanks, of course, continue to do good work, some of it left. @rooseveltinst for example has been at the forefront of developing a structuralist critique of corporate power & asking how that power can be reined in.
4. But still, in recent months I've been struck by the fact that think tanks aren't quite as advanced as some of the candidates (Warren and Sanders, mainly). I look into reasons why in this feature for @thenation : thenation.com/article/think-…
