California recently repealed an 1872 law that made it a misdemeanor, subject to a fine, for any citizen to refuse to join a law enforcement "posse" or turn down an officer's request for assistance in making an arrest: nytimes.com/2019/09/06/us/…
Law enforcement posses have historically been used against marginalized & disenfranchised people. Northern citizens were forced to capture people trying to escape slavery in the 1850s. An Alabama posse beat civil rights marchers alongside state troopers on Bloody Sunday in Selma.
In 2014, a California sheriff asked two neighbors to investigate a 911 call from next door. They walked in on a murder scene and were attacked. The county successfully cited the posse law as legal justification.
California's posse law had otherwise fallen into disuse over recent years. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill removing it from the books on August 30. Residents no longer need to worry about being involuntarily drafted into law enforcement.

#RodneyReed’s attorneys have made a comprehensive showing that he is actually innocent. Powerful evidence implicates Jimmy Fennell, a convicted felon and former police officer, as the real killer. Texas is trying to execute Rodney on November 20th even though he is innocent.
Stacey Stites was found dead on the side of a dirt road near Bastrop, TX, on April 23, 1996. Jimmy Fennell was Stacey's boyfriend. Forensic evidence shows that Stacey was killed at some point before midnight, at a time when Fennell said he was alone with her in their apartment.
Jimmy Fennell was a police officer until he was convicted of kidnapping and "improper sexual activity with a person in custody." Police initially viewed Fennell as their suspect in the murder of Stacey Stites. He failed two polygraph tests. Investigators cleared Fennell anyway.

A bailiff wore this tie emblazoned with a large syringe design in the courtroom during Robert Sparks' trial. The bailiff said he wore it to show his support for the death penalty. Jurors couldn't have missed this tie. Why is Texas pushing forward with this execution tomorrow?
Several courts considered the bailiff's tie and concluded that jurors probably didn't see it. The bailiff was sitting directly behind Robert Sparks, in view of the jury box, while wearing all black with a white syringe on his tie. The point was to make a statement.
What do you think? Imagine you're a juror at a death penalty trial. The judge is asking you to decide whether a person should be executed by lethal injection. Would you notice a bailiff wearing all black with a large white syringe on his tie sitting right behind the defendant?

Texas plans to execute Robert Sparks tomorrow. There were problems at his trial. An “expert” witness offered false testimony and misled jurors. The courtroom bailiff wore a tie with a syringe on it while the jury was considering the possibility of execution by lethal injection.
The prosecution called an “expert” witness to testify that Robert Sparks would be a future danger if he received a life sentence. In Texas, the jury must find that a person poses a “future danger” before the death penalty becomes a sentencing option.
The “expert” witness testified that Robert Sparks would automatically be placed at a less restrictive prison classification level if he received a life sentence. That was false. Prison classifications are always determined on an individual, case-by-case basis.

So, why doesn't Missouri receive media attention? Answer: Its not a border state, and there are practically no illegal aliens in Missouri to demonstrate. (And the Media doesn't want to publicize that fact!) There needs to be more publicity and regarding what Missouri has done.
In 2007, Missouri placed on the ballot a proposed constitutional amendment designating English as the official language of Missouri In November, 2008, nearly 90% voted in favor! Thus, English became the official language for ALL governmental activity in Missouri.

1/16 I live in #California and while not in harm’s way of the #CaliforniaFires, I empathize. Yesterday while driving to the post office, I heard on the radio about the people who died in their cars because they couldn’t make it out in time.
2/16 I teared up in front of the post office worker, it just freaking hit me while we were chatting. People burned alive, not because they ignored an order to evacuate, but because the fires were simply that fast.
3/16 The kind postal worker and I shared a moment—talked about loved ones and friends affected. She shared how her husband was helping people in their nearby community.

California recently passed a law attempting to improve IoT security. It's bad. It's based on a naive, superficial understanding of the problem that won't solve security, while needlessly raising costs.

So right after posting the above article, I added this tweet. Tesla's are Internet connected devices and 40bit keys are unreasonable security features. Yet, the important bit is Tesla has a disclosure program:
In other words, we see the difference between the myopic view California lawmakers have on security and the things that actually make a difference, like a notification/disclosure program.

(1) The #California Legislature is panicking tonight. They're currently presented with a watered-down #ConsumerProtection bill that would require tech companies to disclose the data collected on users, and delete the data collected on them at request. leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavC…
(2) This bill poses a huge threat to the profits of FAANG corporations, and it poses a threat to the companies who rely on this data to sell advertisers and political groups analytics on prospective consumers/voters.

Why is it such a problem, though?
(3) The #CCPA is actually quite milquetoast, as it's written now. But if they don't pass this bill, California has a much bigger problem coming for them in November: the will of the people.

At the outset of the #Brexit process, most people assumed that a deal on #police and #judicial co-operation was easier to get than one on #trade. Time has shown this is not the case. Ongoing co-op on #JHA is one of the few items yet to be agreed on #withdrawal deal. Why?
Well, because the #EU and #UK's opening positions in the #negotiation are incompatible: Britain wants a #bespoke agreement with the EU, a la #Schengen, but is not willing to accept #ECJ or #EUCharter. EU wants to replicate existing models. What to do?
