X : Are you against capitalism?
Me : Quite the opposite, I'm a fan. I simply appreciate that the market system is a tool with self destructive tendencies and it is not suited to all contexts. It's a bit like agile, it doesn't work everywhere. It has its place.
X : Being a fan of a deliberately egregious system is not a good look
Me : Fair point but free market capitalism isn't a replacement for society (that's a problem), it should be a tool used by society in areas of exploration. A bit like the old insource vs outsource debate ...
... the answer is almost never one or the other but both (see map below). In the same way, as markets evolve they should change from being governed by individualism to being governed by collectivism ...
... free market capitalism and nationalisation are not ideological opposed, never to meet concepts ... they are both tools, like agile and six sigma, that both should be used by society on the same system at the same time in the appropriate places.
X : So why are you a fan?
Me : I'm a fan of free market capitalism and a fan of nationalisation. I'm also a fan of agile and six sigma, of insourcing and outsourcing. Mostly I'm a fan of using appropriate methods in the right context. I like context ...
... I'll tell you what I'm not a fan of. I'm not a fan of capitalism for all the things or nationalisation for all the things or agile for all the thing or outsource for all the things or six sigma for all the things or anything for all the things. As I said, I like context.
X : I am coming to distrust questions that depend on multi-meaning trigger words.
Me : Oh, I couldn't agree more. There is a problem here especially in economics. The way that US economists look at economic theory is not the same as Europe.
To make matters worse, in “Individualism between nature and nurture. BĂLAN & VREJA, 2017”, the authors noted
“individualism versus collectivism” orientation suffered significant modifications during the three years of under-graduate studies"
... in other words, even without trying to manipulate your perception of something, simple exposure to modern economic materials over time can change something as fundamental as your orientation towards collectivism or individualism.
