NEW US Air Force crews have stayed overnight at Donald Trump's loss making Turnberry resort around 40 times, an internal USAF review shows. Note this is USAF personnel only. The no of stays by other military personnel is unknown. My @TheScotsman latest: scotsman.com/news/us-air-fo…
The 18% of stays at Glasgow hotels by USAF crew might seem odd, given it's an hour away, but the v majority of those stays - as with those at Turnberry - are for longer layovers. Bluntly put. I'm told the facilities / entertainment at hotels around Prestwick don't exactly excite.
But that's not representative of the decision making which sees bookings made at Turnberry. Some crews request it out of curiosity due to the POTUS connection. Other crews with more senior Europe based USAF personnel enjoy its (relative) opulence, and are return visitors.
More to come on this, but it's 3am in the UK, so I'm off to dream of military refuelling contracts. If you have a tip about Turnberry and Prestwick, put a smile on my face when I get up in three hours' time - email in confidence martynmcl@protonmail.com.
Oh, and pay close attention to the wording of the USAF review. It's figures specifically reference "overnight" stays. Is that inclusive of 2+ night stays?
