Last week, Hurricane Dorian hit the island of Ocracoke off the coast of North Carolina. The @washingtonpost reported that water rose seven feet in two hours. Take a look at that report: wapo.st/2I6KKOO
@washingtonpost The Island Free Press also had an account of the massive storm surge at Ocracoke bit.ly/2I4HwuY
@washingtonpost The New York Times has this account of what Ocracoke was like two days after the storm, when the water receded leaving a tremendous amount of damage. nyti.ms/2I40lhY
@washingtonpost There's an 11 minute story on @wunc from yesterday that documents clean-up efforts, but there's no transcript. bit.ly/2I6jJLk
@washingtonpost @wunc This thread is to draw attention to one individual who I don't know who lost everything in the storm. @13NewsNow has this story: bit.ly/30e6azC
@washingtonpost @wunc @13NewsNow What caught my eye was an Instagram post with Shinn's account of what the damage is like seven days later. A friend tagged me to help get the word out, hence this thread.

@washingtonpost @wunc @13NewsNow I've not covered a disaster before, but it appears FEMA has declared a disaster. Or at least, that information is here:

I don't know what this means, or how it's useful. Is it? I do now know.
As we think about resilience in each of our communities, I have this sense that national coverage of these events is waning, especially for small communities. I'm glad to have seen the post @catherinetilla3 shared because I now I know.
