People throw shade at the “also rans” who poll around 5% or less for remaining in the race despite Biden’s front runner status as if that same m.o. isn’t how Biden maintained the relevancy that ultimately earned him VP and now front runner status b/c he stands in Obama’s shadow.
IOW he’s the front runner now because then he was considered to be the “safest” running mate (read older, center right White statesman from the Rust Belt) for a Black man named Barack Hussein Obama. The expectation was that Joe would keep him line and reassure White voters.
As we soon found out though, it was more often the case that Obama was tasked with either clarifying or distancing himself from Joe’s “gaffes”. It was all the MSM wanted to talk about in the early years of the administration and they still retain muscle memory for it.
At the end of the day Joe Biden is chronically incoherent and disorganized in his messaging which is why he never won the nomination on his own two feet. He doesn’t sound like a front runner and prime time exposure reveals that. Obama by osmosis isn’t Obama.
When I hear him speak I struggle to follow what he’s saying which makes it even harder for me to see him reigning in his tangents efficiently enough to steer the wheel. I’m trying to see him as the chief executive but I have doubts that he’s linear or evolved enough to do it.
Whether you love or hate the other 9 candidates on that Houston debate stage they were all multiple levels more polished and coherent than Joe Biden. What says front runner or chief executive about that and how much lower is the standard supposed to be for him?
The danger in this race for Biden has always been that the more people see him outside of Obama’s shadow and standing on his own two feet, the shakier the ground is going to get especially as it pertains to Black voters. Always a gaffe away from losing his Obama good will card.
