Today, I attended a church service but contrary to my expectations, I left outraged & with so many lingering questions as to why, as Christians, condone messages that sow nothing but seeds of hatred, discord & unnecessary fear of other religions.
THREAD!
It started w/ two pple from a group called CFM (can't recall in full) who went infront & talked abt what they were doing in Nrbi. They mentioned that they were reaching out to our Muslim brothers & sisters abt spreading the gospel. From afar this seems to be harmless
When they explained further, they mentioned that they were doing a survey on the rise of Islam in Kenya. They even claimed that the mark "Halal" being put in food items in Kenya is a sign that Muslims are taking over the Kenyan food industry.
At this point, I was so mad that people who claim to be working to spread the gospel are instilling unfounded fears of "Muslims taking over" upon the congregants.
I said to myself that I should just relax that probably they would have sense & probably apologize. They didn't!
Fast forward to the ministering pastor, who happened to be visiting, came up to the pulpit. I thought he would speak against the message that was just given about 10min ago. Shock unto me, that same pastor happened to be the leader of this CFM group!
He started the sermon preaching about being a blessing to others. I thought this sermon would be abt loving your neighbor as yourself but it quickly turned to be abt how to work against Muslims in a bid not to make them prosper.
The pastor, said that we as Christians are not buying from "our people" but rather Somalis, hence making them rich. He even went further & said that we're allowing Muslims buy land from churches or simply buying the church itself.
He continued by saying that we as Christians are opening businesses & all in UAE hence making Arabs profit from us since they're "strategic". He mentioned that as Christians, we've allowed them to profit from us & that they're more strategic than us.
He later concluded that people should attend his training so that we as Christians be strategic and not allow Islam to spread by spreading the gospel and bring back those who are lost, which at some point, one of the students from his program referred to pple of other religions
I was sooooo mad that I almost left the church but due to reasons I won't disclose, on top of it being my first time in that church, I stayed till the end. I didn't even clap when he finished the sermon because this was not the Christianity I grew up in
Let's address this issue:
As Christians, we have no moral obligation to decide which religion is better. This doesn't mean some religions are perfect. Christianity isn't either: remember the times when the Catholic church used to persecute others for being non-believers?
Islam isn't perfect either. We've seen extremists justifying their killings with the Q'uran's scriptures. Some churches also justify giving a fixed amount of tithe (the famous Malachi 3:10) just to enrich themselves at the suffering of its congregants.
Also, trying to link someone's business acumen to their religion is complete trash! If you want to be successful in business, look for people who are already good at it, seek counsel & start putting in place strategies that will get you there.
RELIGION != BUSINESS ACUMEN
This bashing of other religions just to drive our point home should not be condoned! If you think you're failing as a religion, see what is wrong with your religion & its practices. Blaming other religions for your misfortunes is petty and that is not what God envisioned!
The New Testament came into play in order to do away with the old ways of doing things. As Christians of today, we need to practice love & compassion & not hatred which stems from baseless accusations & fears of "other religions taking over"
Yes! You can reach out to pple of other religions to speak abt the word of God but it's NOT upto you to decide for them on what they need to do. Don't force one to believe what you believe. God envisions a world where we live in peace & harmony regardless of religion
As Christians, we should NOT TOLERATE messages of hatred and fear of other religions in our churches!
This is how war is started & it never looks good in the end!

As usual, these are my personal opinions!!!
