The women at the Karnes detention center in Texas are experiencing systemic medical abuse.

Here’s one example:

Mary* fled her home country because she was sexually abused by the police. The lady who found her took her to hospital. Mary lost consciousness from bleeding out.

She woke up 3 days later with a bandage on her stomach. “The doctors told me I lost my baby”. Doctors also told her that her Fallopian tube was damaged and she might not be able to have children in the future.

Fast forward to arriving at Karnes in June.

“I have experienced extreme pelvic pain every month since the emergency surgery. I have had nerve and muscle pain in my head and at the top of my shoulders. They give me a white pill to take every day for three days."

"I was not told what the pill was. When I am done taking it, my pain comes back. I can go a whole week without sleeping. I need to urinate 10-12 times a night. I feel pain when I urinate.”

“They only tell me to drink water and give me ibuprofen for the pain. I always speak to different nurses and have not spoken to a doctor during my time here. They took urine samples the first day but I never received the results.”

“They give me the same pill no matter what pain I have. The nurse keeps telling me to drink water but the water here smells like chlorine or some strong chemicals. The water smells so bad that I try and put a lot of ice in to dilute it, yet it still smells like chemicals."

“I used to experience extreme nerve pain in my shoulders and neck once a week or every two weeks. I now feel this pain almost daily, due to the cold temperatures and stress. The episodes could be only 30 minutes but they generally come back with more severity."

"It makes it difficult for me to speak and move. I have received no treatment for this besides three white pills that were also given to me for my abdominal pain, nor have I received any testing.”

This is one woman’s sworn testimony.

This is one of many.

ICE is about to transfer Mary* and others like her to Louisiana & other detention centers across the country to make room for families. Think about that: they’ve systematically neglected countless women, now they’re clearing them out, to make room for families.

How can this private prison prison, run by the Geo Group, who have proven they can't provide adequate medical treatment to adults be given the responsibility of looking after children?

Please tell us how this is possible, we can't comprehend it.
