If impeachment proceedings do happen, and it's starting to look awfully unlikely they won't, it's important to not focus narrowly on the Ukraine question (although that might be initially centered since it's an area of very active investigative concern). A few reasons for this:
1. Trump has done many things that are corrosive to the Constitution. It's important that we not reinforce the notion that those things are okay, and make the bar for impeachment so high (pressuring a foreign nation for intervention) that no future president could meet it.
2. We don't know what else is out there. Remember, whistleblower aside, most of the administration is still standing with Trump. It seems reasonably likely that Trump just unlucky here. There's no guarantee anyone would have spoken up about similar episodes of malfeasance.
3. These charges against Trump reinforce each other - particularly Ukraine and the Mueller report. Making this collusion, part 2, provides a factual reference for the substance of the charges, makes his behavior a pattern, and highlights his irredeemability. "He did it again!"
4. Hitting Trump on all fronts with many investigations makes it much harder to maintain his total noncompliance with investigative requests. Trump only has so many lawyers, and if cronies start to get nervous, investigations might start making headway in unexpected places.
5. Politically, Democrats sometimes seem to want to advance a single, clean narrative. But the GOP is good at muddying the waters around any single charge. A better tactic is overwhelm GOP obfuscation with new developments, something a multipronged impeachment is more apt to do.
6. The goal here is to create a miasma of corruption and lawlessness around Trump, emphasizing that he is beyond redemption. A single charge can always be rationalized away. An expansive investigation will show this is not a question of guilt or innocence on any single charge.
7. Ultimately, he deserves it. All the people he's hurt as he's ignored his duties and oath of office, and all the governing institutions he's corrupted for personal gain, deserve to be represented in the process. The House has the capacity to represent them and it should.
