Big update: Asked about the PM’s response to Damian Green, his spox says there’ll be no “*new* physical infrastructure” under Johnson’s plan, which is a v important commitment. HMG’s position is that physical customs checks will take place in infrastructure that already exists.
New: A spox for the Manufacturing Northern Ireland tells me the idea that NI would not need any new infrastructure is "nonsense" and "not feasible or possible"

They say NI's existing customs infrastructure is at ports and many SMEs would have to drive miles to get clearance

Johnson says that under his plan, physical customs checks in Northern Ireland would not take place “at or near” the border but at “trader premises” and “other points in the supply chain”
I can’t see any DUP MPs in the House of Commons for the PM’s statement
Corbyn points out that HMG had previously committed to no physical checks whatsoever. “I’m sorry, I’m only quoting what the government said.”

–Johnson’s pronouncements that both sides know the shape of a deal – NI-only backstop, all-Ireland sanitary and phytosanitary zone, alt arrangements to manage the Border, a consent role for Stormont – ignore the fact that this is miles away from the existing withdrawal agreement

Boris Johnson has arrived at a meeting of the 1922 committee of Tory MPs. Cheering as the prime minister arrived but one person inside says “half the room is silent”
Johnson immediately challenged on Jo Cox and his comments in the Commons last night, particularly use of “surrender”. But PM did not resile or apologise, said the opposition are conflating it with Cox.
Johnson told Tory MPs he doesn’t want to impoverish debate and will keep using the term “surrender bill”.

Downing Street insiders also say they’re not backing away from such language.

Last night, the @CommerceGov said it would add a citizenship question to the #2020Census. In theory, it’s about getting an accurate count for purposes of the Voting Rights Act. In reality, it’s a racist xenophobic move with severe long-term consequences. commerce.gov/sites/commerce…
