Climate change is a religion unto itself, but also the essential sacrament of globalism: a phantom issue of interest only to the global elites, who demonstrate their power by imposing it on the masses and siphoning billions of dollars from free people.
Note all those polls showing climate change ranking near the bottom of issues important to average citizens. Does that dissuade the elite in the slightest? No, it ENCOURAGES them. They get a huge thrill out of imposing an issue important to only themselves on the unwashed masses.
If you watched the U.N. General Assembly, you will have seen climate change invoked like a magic spell to summon the demon of globalism. It has become the shorthand for a rich and powerful global elite canceling nationalism and neutralizing sovereignty.
The enthusiasm of authoritarians and kleptocrats at the U.N. for climate change was comically intense. They have no intention of making any sacrifices themselves, of course. They view the issue as a means of looting the developed world and puffing up their own importance.
For nations like China - the world's great polluter, with plans to get WORSE in the coming decades - climate change is a club to beat its opponents with. The Chinese can scarcely believe their luck as the West flagellates itself into a bloody pulp and hobbles its economies.
The globalist argument is that (Western) national sovereignty is an evil, outmoded concept and only transnational entities have true moral legitimacy. Climate change ideology sacralizes globalism and makes criticism of it heretical.
And never overlook the huge amounts of money that change hands because of climate ideology. It's a massive wealth redistribution scheme, greatly enriching its administrators in the process, as all such schemes do.
Wealth redistribution on a global scale destroys national sovereignty and empowers globalism, elevating power beyond the reach of any single nation's voters. There is no more effective way to erase sovereignty than taking someone's money for a cause he doesn't believe in. /end
