When this national nightmare is over, when those responsible are out of office and (hopefully) on their way to the criminal justice system, there will be much talk about "healing the nation", "coming together" and "setting aside our differences."
It absolutely must not be heeded.

People must never forgive the Republican Party and what it has done to stay in power. Nobody should ever forget what was done to the nation in the name of corporate profits.
The corruption of half the population's minds with hatred and snake-oil salesmanship can't be "set aside."

And, seriously, if it's acceptable to smear Democrats' policy proposal with comparisons to Venezuela and the Soviet Union, which they bear no resemblance and have no relation to, it should be absolutely mandatory to attach Trumpism to the fraud that is supply-side economics.

The trickle-down theory, a scam from its very inception (a very successful attempt to repackage upward redistribution of wealth as something universally appealing), was always meant to end in Trumpism. When profit and disdain for the poor are lauded as virtues, how could it not?

Trumpism, the epitome of cynical corruption and cronyism powered by tossing hatred-soaked populist garbage into the internal combustion engine of a country with a history of racial resentments, is the very pinnacle of supply-side economics. It's the hill on which it must die.

There is only one way of making living through this worthwhile: launching America on its way to becoming a social democracy. Obama-style dreams of bipartisanship and bringing "reasonable Republican voices to the table" weren't realistic in 2009 and are pure trash now.

Not all Democrats are honest and smart. Not all of their ideas are good and workable. This country should never have a one-party system. There must be a normal left-center-right political spectrum. But it must be based in fact, in science, in experience, in trial.

It must be grounded in the understanding that it is time for America to move forward, that unfettered capitalism has reached the point where it's harmful to our prospects as a nation.
And it must be divorced, forever, from the notion that current GOP stands for anything useful.

The only way we have any future at all is if Trumpism goes down in the history books as the moment when America finally saw the truth of the supply-side scam as the anything-goes, no-prisoners-taken last-ditch effort by the immoral privileged few to stay on top at all costs.
