Democrats Hold Secret Interviews

Remember when Democrats were complaining about transcripts of president's calls with foreign leaders being stored on a top-secret server. Last week, Democrats held two impeachment inquiry interviews in a freaking SCIF in the Capitol building.
SCIF (Sensitive Compartmentalized Information Facility) is a room in the Capitol built to be impervious to electronic surveillance so that lawmakers can discuss the nation's most important secrets without fear of discovery. Neither interview was classified.

Can't Get This Out of My Head

I was driving earlier today and ended up listening to a fascinating interview of Megan Phelps-Roper, author of the book "Unfollow: A Memoir of Loving and Leaving the Westboro Baptist Church," on NPR. 1/
Megan spoke eloquently about how she ended up struggling with her religious convictions after exchanging a dialogue with a thoughtful person on Twitter about theology. The entire interview was respectful, thoughtful, illuminating and intelligent. 2/
But, I can't get over the WARNING delivered by the interviewer to the listeners of NPR at the start of the interview. He said (paraphrasing), "Due to the content and strong language in the program, people with young children in the room should switch to another station now." 3/

No Cooperation: WH Calls Current Impeachment Inquiry "Illegitimate and Unconstitutional"

Drudge headliner is a bit crude, but accurately conveys the spirit of White House's letter to Nancy Pelosi and chairmen of several House committees, including Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler.
Trump administration officials called the letter, which was written by White House counsel Pat Cipollone, perhaps the most historic letter the White House has sent.

And what a beauty it is!
White House letter concluded: "The president has a country to lead. The American people elected him to do this job, and he remains focused on fulfilling his promises to the American people."

1. Modern Progressivism Has No Clothes

My favorite NY Times columnist (yes, I have one) Bari Weiss has thrown insightful light on pretensions of modern progressivism in an article titled, "The World’s Wokest Sports League Bows to China."
2. Let's recap what happened. Friday evening, Daryl Morey, the general manager of the Houston Rockets, put out a tweet expressing support for Hong Kong’s democracy movement: “Fight for freedom. Stand with Hong Kong.” He has since deleted that tweet and apologized.
3. You might assume that the wokest professional sports league — NBA is after all a business that pulled its all-star game out of Charlotte, N.C., in 2017 because of that state’s anti-transgender bathroom bill — would see human rights as core virtues. But you would be wrong.

Remember: Hannity is a good friend of Trump’s. The redacted Mueller report suggests Trump was coordinating with Wikileaks to distribute stolen emails. Hannity actively used his show to conceal the source of the stolen emails. rollingstone.com/politics/polit…
It may not be criminal conspiracy, due to 1st amendment protections. But that is nonetheless collusion.

For all the pundits (including myself) who are reminding readers that the Watergate hearings and investigation changed public opinion about President Nixon in 1973/1974, there is an important caveat.
Presidential impeachment meant something very different to Americans living in 1974 than it does in 2019.
In other words, when Congress considered impeaching President Nixon, the last impeachment proceeding had been President Andrew Johnson (1868).
