I'd like to say I'm surprised that @drusamahasan put together such a report, but alas I'm not. Not a balanced analysis nor any specialist insight (but then again it's Quilliam eh? 🙄)
There's so much to critique that a paper might simply be too long...
It's disingenuous in that I'm sure @drusamahasan knows the context in which many things have been said/done & they're nothing as nefarious as he makes out in the report. Most notably is the misleading way in which he portrays advocacy of *a* caliphate. (Main point of paper)
When many refer to political notion of a caliphate, it's an abstract philosophical position they hold, not corporeal entity like Isis, & to play on such inferences is just opportunistic. It's like portraying those who broadly advocate Marxism as supporting Stalin or what he did.
To demonise them thru misrepresentation in a McCarthyist fashion legit leads ppl to conclude a nefarious agenda. Being a critic of democracy (as many western political theorists are) doesn't make you an extremist. Where have the liberal ideals of freedom of expression gone?
I disagree w/ the reductive ideas of many 'caliphites', but I attempt to engage meaningfully & believe in the force of my argument & its shar'i basis. These are debates on Islamic political theory which we need to explore & you're simply getting in the way of our development.
Fyi: I wouldn't defend *all* ppl named in report, some I don't know, others are quite foolish & uninformed. Ones I do know haven't contributed to social breakdown, extremism or illegality - ironically thru their own methods they've helped as bulwarks against! (I've witnessed it)
For those who know, the ppl named in this report are largely salafis, who @drusamahasan has had a personal axe to grind w/ for a number of years. The problem is that he's bringing yesterday's drama into 2019 where we've all actually moved on.
Yet again, another & new generation of Muslims r having the lens of securitization thrust on them when its irrelevant to their lives. Millennial Muslims are passed all that nonsense. @drusamahasan @QuilliamOrg @CommissionCE need to stop using us as pawns to remain relevant.
No one cares about your past pathetic beefs (on both sides) & your generation is on the out. Just leave in a dignified fashion so we can get on with it productively. And give us a break on chasing ghosts and past characters who aren't even on the public stage anymore.
