In August the EHRC asked our group for feedback 'in the Scottish context' on the EHRC's draft 'Equality Act Guidance for Schools on Transitioning Pupils'. With the agreement of @EHRCScotland we have now published an edited version of our response here: wgscotland.org.uk/consultation-r…
We believe that policy making should be transparent & that policy makers & organisations seeking to influence policy should be as transparent as is reasonably possible, hence why we are publishing our response (which we have also sent to the Scottish Government).
We hope our response helps clarify just how wrong the EHRC (& others) are in the kind of approach they are taking re the human rights & equality protections of women & girls, & indeed how their approach is in fact not a rights-based approach, & constitutes a very serious failure.
We’ll be taking these arguments forward in our engagement with the Scottish Govt re the govt’s guidance & soon we’ll be writing to John Swinney re why the govt should be drawing up full equality & human rights guidance that addresses the needs & rights of all children.
