I just don’t care how much people spend on their hair appointments. White supremacy is on the march, poverty is epidemic in the richest nation on earth, and climate change is going to make this planet uninhabitable unless we make radical changes, now. Plus, Trump. Get serious.
Men and boys need to do more than acquaint ourselves with the cost of being women and girls—and others who aren’t in that gender binary—in the world that our expectations, to an excessive and unfortunate degree, have shaped for them. We need to become fluent in their experiences.
If we are ever going to end misogyny, as well as eliminate the violence and the structures that support it, men and boys need to learn early not to center their own gender, not to consider themselves to be superior—and to be curious about lived experiences that are not their own.
