I read this article & again all I can think about are the hundreds of thousands of Black & Latinx people & communities he terrorized, arrested, jailed, & destroyed during his tenure as “law & order” mayor of NYC. nytimes.com/2019/10/10/us/…
No they specifically targeted Black & Latinx people living only in certain neighborhoods for “quality of life crimes.” Nothing random about it.
“Crime rates” are proportionate to the rates of arresting people. Still true today. Around 90% of all marijuana arrests and arrests for jumping turnstile are Black or Latinx. It’s not because they do either more. Policing is racist.

Conditions:

1. Racism. A direct line from slavery to mass punishment.
2. Mass media. A history of publicizing outlier cases that skews public perception of crime.
3. Politics. A fear that evidence-based solutions to health issues will lose elections for appearing soft on crime.
