BREAKING: House Judiciary Committee wins access to Mueller’s grand jury files, per an order from U.S. District Court Chief Judge Beryl Howell.

Major victory for House Dems, even as the focus of the impeachment inquiry has shifted to Ukraine.
HOWELL: “[The House Judiciary Committee] has shown that it needs the grand jury material referenced and cited in the Mueller Report to avoid a possible injustice in the impeachment inquiry, that this need for disclosure is greater than the need for continued secrecy”
“Complete information about the evidence the Special Counsel gathered, from whom, and in what setting is indispensable to [the committee],” Howell writes, citing the recent revelation that neither McGahn nor Don Jr. were asked to testify before the grand jury.

The House sergeant-at-arms just waked back into the SCIF. Still unclear if Laura Cooper’s deposition has actually started.
There is movement, per @MZanona. And it appears that the security sweep, prompted by GOP lawmakers bringing phones into the secure area, is almost finished.

McCarthy just now appeared to excuse GOP members bringing cell phones into the secure area of the SCIF, telling me:

“These are individuals who have never been in Intel Committee before or anywhere else. So it’s nothing serious from that matter.”

Direct quote.
Other Republicans are using this justification too, telling me that they worked to collect everyone’s phones after realizing that some members had walked in with their devices.

Still, the entire facility had to be swept due to the security breach.
Wow — an official working on the impeachment inquiry says some Republicans “refused to completely remove” their phones from the facility “after being advised by the Sergeant at Arms and security personnel that there were members still in possession of electronic devices.”

Today, Fiona Hill, Trump's senior Russia advisor, goes behind closed doors for deposition to committee chairs spearheading the #impeachment inquiry.
Today is also Amb. Gordon Sondland's deadline for requested records re: Ukraine.
Sondland records are due by COB. His testimony for lawmakers is slated for Oct 16.
Then there is Semyon aka Sam Kislin, a longtime Giuliani associate. He is expected to be deposed today too.

Something to remember as we wade into this sacrosanct constitutional process: Congress has unchecked power to impeach. The House of Representatives
has 'sole' power of impeachment. Sole = belonging only to. Nixon v. Fitzgerald, a landmark case that established executive privilege & presidential immunity also ruled that impeachment & the press were inherent powers of the public to check presidential abuse of power.
The Constitution does not give the judicial or executive branch any jurisdiction to limit or obstruct the impeachment process. In fact, doing so would contravene the express mandate of the Constitution and all following judicial & legislative actions in this matter. So what's

It's time I had my say about #Impeachment, DJT's obstructionistic tactics, and @SpeakerPelosi's not pushing for an inquiry yet.

When AG Barr released the redacted version of the report to Congress, he did *not* include any of the underlying documents on which Mueller relied.

Just like a lawsuit, a case has to be built based on facts and evidence. Both the Intelligence Committee and the Judiciary Committee have been working their way through the system, including voting to hold AG Barr in Contempt of Congress. DJT has been fighting them in court.

Meanwhile, the Ways and Means Committee has also been working on getting DJT's tax returns. One of the Committees has also been working on getting records subpoenaed from DJT's financial management firm and from Deutche Bank, known for Russian money laundering.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.
