Lots of developments in Catalonia today, the day of a general strike:

- 5th night of protests in the region, with reports of police using tear gas and rubber bullets on demonstrators
- One police officer taken to hospital after being hit with rock
- 37 people injured today
- More than 1/2 million pro-independence supporters descend on Barcelona after marching from around region
- Website for indy platform organising demonstrations @tsunami_dem has been closed down by authorities
- Spanish interior minister has just said that violent pro-independence supporters will feel the full force of the law, warning of prison sentences of up to 6 years.
- Fernando Grande-Marlaska confirms 128 people have been arrested since Monday.
Barcelona again looking like a war scene tonight
I look at this photo and I have to do a double take to think it’s Barcelona, the place I used to call home. Looks apocalyptic
Spanish interior ministry says 207 police officers have been injured - one seriously this afternoon. 800 containers burnt and 107 police vehicles damaged.
Footage of tear gas being fired by police to disperse crowds
Police using water cannon for the first time on the streets of Barcelona - to break through barricades, not to disperse protesters. Video:
Watching pictures of an endless stream of police vans going through the streets of Barcelona. Authorities seem really determined tonight to end the spiral of violent protest. Hundreds more officers were sent to the region yesterday. Early to say but streets looking much clearer.
Hearing of more than a handful of journalists, clearly marked as such, who are covering the protests in Barcelona have been injured... by police.
Obviously don’t know the full facts of this, but what incredibly disproportionate, inexcusable aggression from Spanish National police. Pushing around a couple of protesters who don’t look like they’ve done anything wrong at all.
How the streets of Barcelona have been left tonight. Rocks covering the ground, piles of any objects that protesters could get their hands on smouldering. The images of radical protest which have overshadowed today’s peaceful marches. Video: @catalannews
