Dear @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice @DGPMaharashtra @ThaneCityPolice @Thane_R_Police @Dev_Fadnavis I always had immense respect for Maharashtra Police and Mumbai police as it’s history is full of sacrifices in the line of duty and protecting it’s citizens and law and order.
Unfortunately one incident actually shattered my trust today morning and I would like to share my experience here. I stay in Palava city and was going to Tilak Nagar, Kalyan for some personal work.
It was around 12:00 PM when just before Tilak Nagar My car was idling at Durgadi Chowk circle as the traffic police had signaled for halt. Just on my right there was a Truck Bearing No. MH04EB 8715 was idling too.
Suddenly the driver of the truck trying to break the man managed signal moved the truck taking a sharp left without caring who others may be on his left hit my car from the front. Since the traffic was heavy it couldn’t fled the spot
I immediately came out of the car and asked the driver to park his vehicle and come out. We both parked the vehicle ahead of the circle and I reached out to the policemen deployed there. I asked them to take the cognigance and impose a challan on the vehicle on two accounts.
1. Breaking the signal 2. Dangerous driving endangering other commuters. Meanwhile the driver called the owner over phone and asked me to hold for few minutes as the owner resides nearby and will reach to sort the matter.
I kept asking the police to check the valid documents of his vehicle and impose challan but he kept excusing for few minutes. Within five minutes the owner must be around 25-27 years old guy reached and very humbly approached me.
Apologized in a very polite manner and promising to pay the damages. I told the police and vehicle owner both that the matter isn’t about paying the damages as my vehicle is insured but it’s about the deterrence on dangerous driving casing others lives at risk.
I insisted for the checking of his vehicle’s papers and imposing of challan but that didn’t happen. The owner pleaded to me that any challan will harm his pocked and not the drivers so I should not insist and he’ll get my vehicle’s damage repaired in a garage which is nearby.
The policeman too suggested that I should get the vehicle repaired and he’ll impose the challan later if I insisted. I finally agreed to both of them request and followed the two wheeler of the owner on which he came to the garage named Bagwan Auto Garage 100 meters away.
I parked my vehicle opposite that garage which is owned by someone he knows and some Faisal came to me. Then both of them inspected my vehicle and went inside the garage. After 2-3 minutes they came back with 4-5 more people and started arguing with me.
They were very aggressive by now and 1-2 people along with the vehicle owner were using foul language. I assuming the situation told them I’m going back to the police and a challan must be imposed on the vehicle. That’s it. They started abusing & the owner tried to assault me.
He tried hitting me with some object in the stomach and my T-shirt image is a witness to that. I pushed them away in self defence and quickly got in to my car. They shouted “Ja jisko bolna hai bol de miya bhai ka jo ukhaad sakta hai ukhaad le. Aur jayega to idhar se hi.”
(They knew I reside in palava during our conversation at the incidence spot along with the policeman.) I rushed to the spot but found the truck is gone. I immediately took the number of local police station from google which happens to be Bazar Peth police station.
I called them at 02512204167 and some Mr Gaikwad answered my call. The time was 12:43 PM. I narrated him about the whole incident and he asked me to come to the police station and give a complaint. I immediately rushed there and reached around 1:00 PM.
Mr Gaikwad was out on lunch by then surprisingly and some Shubhangi Dipak Pawar(Maybe a constable) was there. She asked me for what purpose I’m there very rudely. I narrated her my story and insisted that I want to file a complaint and I fear for my safety when I go back home.
But she was more interested in whether I should narrate the incident in Marathi which I don’t know. Then she said I’ll give you a receiving kind of paper which will help you claiming insurance. I told her repeatedly that I’m here to lodge a complain for the attempted assault
I want to reach home safe was my second concern. Now the lady became angry and started probing me as if I was the culprit. She probed me for 10min and then started engaging herself in other stuff as if I’m not even present there. By then my friend whom I called reached there
My friend from Kalyan suggested me to leave it as the police will not take any complaints against local muslims. Sadly I left with huge disappointment. My friend literally escorted me till Patri Pul to ensure that I go home safe.
Upon reaching home when I tried to trace the culprit’s vehicle number the details shows some Ganesh Vilas Bhagade as owner from Vasai. However RC status shows the NOC has been issued from Vasai to Kalyan as the vehicle has been sold on 19th September 2019.
The tax was paid only up to 30th September 2019 which has already passed.
Now I have some basic questions in my mind : 1. What if not a car but a bicycle, two wheeler or a pedestrian was in place of me? He would be dead.
2. What if the policeman listened to my pleas to check the papers of the vehicle and challan him? It would have been seized and a huge amount as fine would have come to the government.
3. What if in my place some lady or a weak guy had gone to miya bhai’s garage? She might have been harassed or may be raped/He might have been beaten brutally.
4. What if some poor person or weaker person or less educated person must be facing on the hands of police personel like Shubhangi Dipak Pawar upon approaching? Abuses, Humiliation or threats.
5. What if a vehicle without registered owner details and valid papers is used for a terror attack on Mumbai involving Mia bhai? Many would be dead as it has heppened in past.
Dear @nitin_gadkari @PMOIndia @narendramodi your new motor vehicle act is in shambles in a city like Mumbai due to these kind of elements and negligence of local administration. Do something about it.
Dear @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice @ThaneCityPolice @Thane_R_Police @Dev_Fadnavis . Just received a call from the lady PI against whom I've complained. She was insisting me to come to the bazar peth PS right now to lodge a complaint. I denied as i did that today post incident.
