Goldman Sachs reportedly fired Martin Weber, a Managing Director who ran the financing division in the Middle East & North Africa.

The firing came after Goldman did an internal review & found unacceptable due diligence issues.

January 2018, this article stated that Weber was based in Dubai and was "responsible for the sovereigns and supranationals business in Europe, Middle East and Africa."

Hmm, in 2015, Weber mentioned working with Etihad Airways and its bond issuance. Not sure if he worked on it or approved anything directly himself, but....

Goldman got involved with 2 little known brokerages & a controversial financier in that bond issuance....and it went BUST.

Baris A. Koch, the brother of Izmir A. Koch who was convicted of a hate crime against a man he thought was Jewish, was charged with lying to the FBI and concealing his brother Izmir's flight out of the US. Izmir was released pending trial and fled to Russia.
It sounds to me like Baris helped his brother Izmir flee the country. He claimed to have lost his drivers licenses twice in Ohio, so got copies and his brother fled to Mexico. He then used Baris' passport to fly to Europe, then made his way to Russia.
So, a liberal Clinton judge let Izmir out of jail pending his trial, and then Izmir escaped.

Someone please tell me how books published by Lexington (part of @RLPGBooks) count towards tenure.

I just finished an atrocious (polite description) book by a tenured professor on "Sexual Jihad." As if that's not bad enough, the book repeatedly refers to "Christian Yazidis."
@RLPGBooks Yazidis are not Christian by definition, guys. Yazidis are an ENTIRELY different religion - ethnic Kurds who speak Kurdish. Apostasy renders one outside the fold.

Does @RLPGBooks use peer review? It's appalling that this book was ever published, let alone counted for tenure.
@RLPGBooks In a meeting, so I can't savage the book in-depth right now, but let's put it this way -- the central thesis is that "women's roles in the Qur'an and Hadith" explain "women's roles in terrorism."

By a political scientist - zero expertise in MENA, Islam, or Arabic... of course.

1. *Context. When it comes to reproducing/publishing early Qur'anic manuscripts, we basically have two ways to follow, either diplomatic or facsimile editions. Yes, I know, Digital Humanities counts too.
2. The diplomatic edition is based on the idea of publishing the transcription of a single MS with the attempt to faithfully reproducing the original text of X manuscript. Pictures are not eliminated, as DP usually have some picture samples.
